To mark World Environment Day, a global initiative that encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment, residents across Regis communities embraced the opportunity to connect with nature, celebrate sustainability, and enjoy meaningful moments together.
At Regis Sandgate Musgrave, residents visited the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre, where they spent time in the museum and learned about local ecosystems, insects, and native species. Resident Jefferson especially enjoyed the virtual bird migration on display at the center. The outing continued with a walk through the surrounding parkland, ending with a relaxing afternoon tea picnic beneath the trees. Resident Margaret reflected on how much the center had improved since her last visit, while new resident Garry said “it was relaxing to be with nature.”
Meanwhile, at Regis Birkdale, residents took part in a gardening and upcycling activity. Using recycled materials, they created eco-friendly planters and worked together to maintain the garden. Some planted seeds, others cleared leaves, and a few transformed egg trays into gardening containers. Resident Gina shared, “My dad was a gardener, and I still remember how amazingly he built and nurtured our vegetable garden in the yard. I must say, I got my green thumb from him.”
Activities like these are a joy for residents, who love getting outside, working together, and making a positive impact, while helping raise awareness about the importance of protecting our environment.
